(För dig vars begär för utforskande av existentiella och psykoanalytiska frågor går ännu längre rekommenderar vi att du tar en titt på vårt seminarium tidigare på dagen.)
Ovartaci is Denmark’s most famous exponent of so-called “outsider art”. Outsider art is often praised for its imaginative and visionary character, and it is said to be endowed with necessity, urgency and “meaning” in a higher sense. This also roughly fits the art of Ovartaci. Comparing Ovartaci’s art to modernist art, which tends to bore holes in the meaningful texture of ordinary life, his art seems to fill in the texture of life with too much meaning.
My presentation will introduce a Lacanian take on the “too much meaning” of Ovartaci, thus opening a new approach to his work as well as forming the background for a reexamination of the aesthetical and political implications of the concept of outsider art.
The Lecture will be held in English and will be led by Brian Benjamin Hansen - Associate Professor of Applied Philosophy at Aalborg University, member of the philosophical collective Center for Wild Analysis.
